I’m involved in a flame war in with someone that admittedly exemplifies the purpose of the community. That, oddly enough, isn’t a joke. Nor a punchline. I’m getting jabbed at (if we can cease laughing long enough to call it that) by some angsty miscreant who must actually think I’m getting insulted. feh….. I read said miscreant’s userinfo, and we do have a few things in common, so I’m not prepared to give up on young grasshopper just yet. For the moment, it’s rather like wishing into a fountain. It COULD happen, but one way or the other you’re going to lose that penny. It’s just a penny, afterall.

Oh - Amber & Charlie - I appreciate the invitation to join the new community, but I’ve only recently just dropped several of my memberships in assorted other communities as my lack of posting there didn’t merit taking up the space. Most of my LJ time is spent on layouts, my personal journal, and the other communities that I moderate. alone is a handful! Thank you for the invitation, but I’m having to scale back as it is.

I was reading Foxnews.com this morning and I ran across something so wholly inappropriate that I couldn’t believe it. It is one of the most unbelievable things I’ve ever seen - and then I remembered it was Fox, afterall. You have to see it to believe it - therefore, I give you:
Is this not in the worst possible taste? My mouth just fell open and my eyes were all big and I asked Maggie “Do you SEE this?” She couldn’t believe it either. What the hell? Was this some kind of racist prank disguised as an innocent mistake? It is so outrageous that things like this can be shown to the public before anyone takes notice. This is the height of stupidity and I’m seriously offended. What’s next? “Palestinians to Ariel Sharon: ‘Pipe down, ya dirty Heeb!’”???

I just got off the phone with a very excited Allen Thornell, executive director of Georgia Equality. I had to, I was to excited not to and I wanted to share in this moment with him. He was very happy that I called! Wherever he was, there was a lot of hooting and hollering going on in the background. He’s just as excited as we are, and said to tell all of the people he met at the meeting hello and thanks for the support. He said that this thing WILL go through reconsideration, that the sponsors are definitely going to be asking for it. So that’s going to happen sometime around next week, maybe Monday or Wednesday possibly in the House Rules Committee. I told him that we all loved him and that we would never forget the work he had done to make this happen.
For the people here in Columbus, call your State Representatives and voice your opposition to SR 595 and explain why you think this proposed amendment is so damaging to every citizen in Georgia. For us here in Columbus, they are:

I’m going to get in contact with Rabbi Tom Freidman and ask him to write a letter opposing the amendment and send it to Allen. If anyone knows of any church leaders, pastors, or congregants that would be willing to do the same, PLEASE let me know and try to get that ball rolling ASAP.
This is a big step in the right direction for us, and I personally feel very accomplished for making all of the calls, faxes, and emails to countless senators and representatives these past two weeks. I feel like a lot of energy has paid off, and though I know there is more to come, I feel good about where we are right now. This sets a precedent to all other states that Georgia, the buckle of the Bible belt, is not in favor of discriminating politicians.

Can you imagine the ramifications of this? I can see lawsuits against Mel Gibson, Jim Caviezel (the actor playing Jesus), the entire Jewish faith, for ordering the hit and the Romans, for actually whacking Christ. It is kind of sad, though.

I swear, faith is an odd thing. It makes me absolutely nuts sometimes. I hear the things that believers say, and it just boggles the mind.
