Thank you! I so needed that today of all days, and I sincerely appreciate it. So from the bottom of my heart, I thank you again.

I’ve been thinking that I am losing touch with my sense of joy, which is invariably killing my muse. I tried some sample techniques from older composites and came up with a piece earlier, but I want to do more and it’s just not coming.

On a lighter and funnier note, I almost had the front end of the BMW ripped off this afternoon by some random cunt that cut me off exiting the parking lot at Publix. She flew in front of me so fast I gripped the wheel with both hands whiteknuckled and yelled “MotherFUCK!!. She then started slowing down slightly and stared at me while she passed. I thought I was going to die for a second, then I focused on the car… A BMW 745Li. My dream car. I was almost taken out by 4,464 lbs of irony.

I’ve never been that big on Sigur Rós, I tried twice before to listen to them and really absorb it, but to no avail. Then along comes this morning, in that special way of his, and posts about their video for the song viðrar vel til loftárása. [right click to download: MP3/Video]

The video is about the love that develops between two young boys (presumably in Iceland, where the band hails from), and absolutely stunned me when I watched it this morning. I asked Maggie to come watch it and we both sat there, completely stunned. It is hauntingly, achingly beautiful. I recommend downloading both the video and the song, they’re both amazing.

You can also choose from lots of music and video downloads on their site. Fair warning though, it is intense and beautiful and just might break your heart. I adore it.

was to create today. I was inspired, I was happy to have my creative vision back. I was so hopeful that I could make something beautiful today, maybe even write something.

Now it’s gone as quickly as it came, and I’m dead inside. All that is left is the swelling anger I’ve got exponentially filling my stomach, making me want to cry tears that I know just don’t come any longer.

I don’t know why I even fucking bother trying anymore.

Self portrait

Best stereotype EVER! parked next to this cop car
at Chili’s, where we’d decided on for late lunch/early dinner.
I had to take the picture ’cause no one would have believe it without
proof. I swear to you, in no way was this staged. And yes,
they’re donuts.

Bear in mind that I love my father, so even when he’s infuriating and makes it hard to love him, I still do. He sent me the partial reply first, realized he wasn’t quite finished with it and sent the partial in error, so immediately sends this hilarious one-liner as a disregard notice/explaination:

Somehow this stupid computer (I think it may be a liberal Democrat) sent this message before I was through with it, so disregard and read the one that was finished.

Shortly thereafter (once I had a long laugh), came the full text of his reply:

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but on one thing we do agree. It matters not if one is a Republican or Democrat, if they put their own agenda before the good of our country they are not conducting themselves to the degree of professionalism their office requires and deserves. The problem I have with these people is they know very well that Condoleezza Rice is well qualified and for that matter will be confirmed, they are just putting on a show to let everyone know how much they hate George Bush. That was certainly confirmed today when she was confirmed by a strict party line vote! Don’t matter whether anyone likes him or not, he IS their president for the next 4 years so they need to just get over it and work together for the good of the USA!

I don’t claim to be a Democrat or Republican. I am an American, and damn well proud of it! People all over the world see the circus performances these politicans do on TV and reported in the news media. Ever wonder why they have little respect for the USA?

I have traveled all over this old world and I can assure you that what we have may not be perfect, but it is a hell of a lot better than what anybody else has! It is a shame everyone can’t realize that and be thankful they live in this country. The real measure of how much these folks that rant and rave all the time are really dissatisfied with this country - compare the ratio of how many people want to come here and how many want to leave. And for that matter, the ones that don’t like it here—–the saying goes “Delta is ready when you are”.

My brother (who is being kept in this loop purposefully) replied to both of us with:

Well said on both sides. Heck I guess you can argue politics. Think I’m going to leave this one alone, however I would still like to see your e-mails. I learned a little on both sides. Harry S. Truman once said
“Once a government is committed to the principle of silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go, and that is down the path of increasingly repressive measures, until it becomes a source of terror to all it’s citizens and creatures a country where everyone lives in fear.”

Will post my reply as soon as I’ve written and sent it off to him. For the record, I do agree with him on certain points, it’s just really fun sometimes to yank his chain.

Lawmakers take on abortion
24-hour waiting period proposed

Source: Atlanta Jouranl-Constitution [Link]

Legislation aimed at reducing the number of abortions performed in Georgia will be introduced in the General Assembly today, setting up what is expected to be a passionate political debate over the procedure.

As part of the “Woman’s Right to Know Act,” physicians in Georgia who perform abortions would be required to give women information on the medical risks of abortion, the probable gestational age of the fetus, alternatives to abortion including adoption, and information on fetal pain. The bill would require women to wait 24 hours after receiving that information before deciding whether to move forward with the procedure.

Rep. Sue Burmeister (R-Augusta), sponsor of the proposal in the House, said the bill is intended to educate women. “Women are intelligent, but when you’re emotional you’re not thinking with the right part of your brain,” Burmeister said Thursday. “We want to give them some information where they might say, ‘Here are some other solutions and I can take those and prevent an abortion.”

Sen. Renee Unterman (R-Loganville) introduced a similarly worded abortion bill in the Senate.

Becky Rafter, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Georgia, said Thursday the bills are intended to “chip away” at the legal and safe abortions provided by law in the U.S. Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision.

What this bill would do would place undue further restrictions on women’s access to reproductive health care,” Rafter said. “It’s already difficult to receive an abortion because so many counties don’t have abortion providers.[more]

Nay nay, says the Liberal from West Georgia. I’m already preparing my argument in my head for how to deliver my position to the opposition. I know how politics work in this state and in this country, I’ve studied long and hard and believe me when I say, this is a smokescreen - just like SR 595 was and countless proposed bills/amendments before it. But whatever you do, don’t accuse them of furthering an agenda, oh no! There is no agenda other than the homosexual adgenda and the other “liberal agendas”. It is indeed a means of chipping away, and if you knew the operatives in play here you would understand why. Case in point? The Federal Marriage Amendment is being resurrected. DOMA still stands, therefore making it completely uneccessary, but that’s not the point, because here we are.

I have serious reservations about modifying any law that in any way hampers, impedes, or otherwise places restrictions on reproductive freedom and choice. I see these things as a bigger picture, and therefore I force myself to make harsh decisions on how I feel about them. I got very nervous when Scott Peterson was being tried for the murder of his unborn son. In part because an 8 month in-utero fetus is viable outside the womb, and in part because I saw what would have come snowballing down immediately after. Where does it end? What about a 6 month fetus? What about two months? What about conception? There are many gray areas and even more possibilities for opponents of choice, therefore the fight to keep reproductive freedom laws intact is critical. The Senate Republicans, the neocons in particular, are always salivating like vultures any time a social issue comes into play that can be manipulated to their advantage, the advantage being a limit ultimately on the number of social programs available.

Common sense dictates that if you are against having an abortion, then you shouldn’t have one.
And if you don’t appreciate porn, you shouldn’t watch it. And if you don’t like the content of a particular movie or cd, don’t buy them or pay to see them. The core issue here is censorship, an idea wielded like a club by conservatives who refuse to accept the reality that censorship is completely unAmerican. Even unpopular speech must be protected, without such provision none is safe. The bigger fear, I suspect, is being held up to scrutiny, which is lame at best. If you cannot handle having your opinions torn down by someone else, then you’re better off not voicing them. The problem with that philosophy is that if you don’t exercise your right to voice an opposing opinion, it atrophies and eventually you’re going to lose it.

The crux of the issue here is a waiting period, and hence the aforementioned “chipping away”. I know there are those that would make the claim that there is a standard waiting period before almost any nonemergency, invasive surgical procedure, and there is no argument here. But in most cases, abortion is not an emergency. In the vast majority of cases, it is an elective procedure, and therefore the notion of “giving (women) some information where they might say, ‘Here are some other solutions and I can take those and prevent an abortion’” I find rather insulting. Clearly they think women are stupid and are not capable of ascertaining such information on their own.

More proof that this is bullshit legislation? I direct you then to the suggested “information” that Rep. Sue Burmeister (sponsor of the proposal in the House) alluded to. Wait a minute, there’s only a bare mention of such information, nothing has been provided as a counterpoint. How curious!

You may think this doesn’t affect you personally. I can understand that. Will you wait to have an opinion until after more things like this happen that do affect you, when it comes into your house? Will your voice matter then? Will it even be heard? Will you indeed by then even have one?

It’s been 60 years since Auschwitz was liberated.
The conditions must have been unfathomable.
A few precious, innocent lives were saved.

Remember the holocaust.

Never forget it happened.

Because there are those that would prefer you did.
Regretfully some who pretend it never happened.
Some who change their minds about that.

So I ask you to please remember that it did happen, for the sake of us all.
