By now I’m sure you’ve all seen the media reports about the Va Tech killer’s video & written manifesto, as well as all of the pictures of him and his guns and knives that he sent to NBC in between killing people in different buildings.

Please, don’t repost this shit. He did it because he wanted it to be a sensational thing, he wanted to be famous for it - DO NOT give this sick motherfucker the satisfaction. By reposting it, you completely validate him, and in the hope that you are honorable people not interested in titillating this horrifying, senseless tragedy, I ask that you not give him what he wanted after his death. Enough media outlets are already showing the videos and pictures, which is just fucking shameful.

Do not make a martyr of him.

Just don’t do it.

Please.

Peter Gabriel - Here Comes The Flood

When the night shows
the signals grow on radios
All the strange things
they come and go, as early warnings
Stranded starfish have no place to hide
still waiting for the swollen Easter tide
There’s no point in direction we cannot
even choose a side.

I took the old track
the hollow shoulder, across the waters
On the tall cliffs
they were getting older, sons and daughters
The jaded underworld was riding high
Waves of steel hurled metal at the sky
and as the nail sunk in the cloud, the rain
was warm and soaked the crowd.

Lord, here comes the flood
We’ll say goodbye to flesh and blood
If again the seas are silent
in any still alive
It’ll be those who gave their island to survive
Drink up, dreamers, you’re running dry.

When the flood calls
You have no home, you have no walls
In the thunder crash
You’re a thousand minds, within a flash
Don’t be afraid to cry at what you see
The actors gone, there’s only you and me
And if we break before the dawn, they’ll
use up what we used to be.

Lord, here comes the flood
We’ll say goodbye to flesh and blood
If again the seas are silent
in any still alive
It’ll be those who gave their island to survive
Drink up, dreamers, you’re running dry.

So.

My dear friend Monica is new to this world of blogging, and has had many questions about how to do this, that, and the other. It helps to be HTML proficient in cases like this, but for those who aren’t very skilled with codes I’m going to do you a huge favor in this post. It’s basically a How To/DIY kind of a thing for the stuff you’d want to learn to do for your own posts. I use a LOT of code in my posts, and I’m always happy to share what I know with others.

Let’s start with my Semagic client settings. I post to LJ exclusively with the Semagic Client. I also use it for editing code I use elsewhere, in layouts for LJ, in websites for clients, word processing, you name it. It is very versatile software. One of the best features in Semagic is the ability to plug in your own macros. A macro is a kind of command you give, which saves you the headache of having to type out the codes or things you would tend to use a lot of in your posts. See my post on Semagic here for everything you may need to know about it.

For these tutorials, you’ll need to replace the text I have put in red with your own info, such as URLS (web addresses) and the like.

Let’s start with images, pretty basic. One thing I get asked a lot is how I get my images to move around in my posts. All images you post to your blog are going to default to the left margin of your layout, and unless you add a specific code allowing otherwise, any text you enter after will appear below the image. I don’t like wasted space, so I always place images in my entries where I enter text to either the left or right side, with the text wrapping around. I rotate the placement, but it is really up to you.

To place an image on the left side of your post, use the following code:

IMAGE URL HERE” border=”1″ ALIGN=”LEFT” VSPACE=”2″ hspace=”5″>

Using this code will allow you to utilize the space beside the image and prevent that wasted blank space you would have otherwise, like this (see left). If you want the image to appear on the right side, simply substitute the word “RIGHT” in the code for the “LEFT” attribute. I added a 1 pixel border to this one, but if you don’t want the border change the “1″ attribute to “0″.

If you want to have a little bit of small text beneath your image to caption it, use the following code:
IMAGE URL HERE” border=”0″ alt=”">

CAPTION TEXT HERE

This post is Not Safe For Work.

And this (see image at right) is what you’ll get as a result - nice and neat and functional, plus you have a neat space to give a blurb about whatever image you’ve posted directly underneath it. Some of these codes you’re going to have to change attributes for. In this example, the image is 100 pixels wide, so I entered 100 in the width attribute so the text would be in line with the width of the image. To find out the pixel width of an image on your computer, simply mouse over the image file icon and it’ll tell you, or right-click on the file and select Properties. The first number in
Dimensions is the width, followed by height.

If you’d like to know how I’ve done things like this in the past, comment with a link to a previous post and I’ll add it to this one. You’ll likely find all the links to my older stuff on my tage page.

One last thing - code for the line I’ve posted twice now to break out this post into sections is the easiest thing ever:

If you want it shorter or a different color, change the attributes for width and color (list of color codes, called RGB values, can be found here):

Here’s what you’ll end up with from the code above:

Nifty, huh?

I really feel good right now. Not allergies, those still suck - and I haven’t had a really good night’s sleep in several days. I mean internally, in my mind and in my heart. D and I have seemingly found our groove again after a short absence that was really starting to wear us both down. We’re about to celebrate our 5th anniversary on the 21st, which will consequently be the Saturday we get to spend in Atlanta with our extended family of friends for the wedding of and - and I’ll get to finally meet people I have wanted to give big full body, soul warming hugs to for ages now - , , , , and will again get to see and give big lovins to and (LIES!! ALL LIES!!) HA!! - SO EXCITED!! Our anniversary dinner is going to be spent in Atlanta, with good friends and as guests of a fantastic occasion.

I got to spend all last week with my babies, which was more wonderful than I can even really explain.

has really taken off and started doing amazing things after being in a serious funk for longer than she knew, and I’m totally proud of her. I know that eventually she’ll be back down this way to live again, and that’s going to be great having her close by. She’s on a journey right now and has to accomplish more for herself before she can do that, and I understand. It’s funny, we talk so often these days on the phone that I’ve had to give her a special ringer. Best of all is that 5 seconds into every call (all of which tend to last hours) one of us is going “OH MY GOD, you’re never going to believe what happened to me today…”, usually punctuated with “this was too funny!”

We have a new little one about to grace our family, baby Willow is stirring up quite a lot of fuss in ’s tummy and we’re anticipating she’ll be here by the next full moon. Our contingency plan is already mapped out and the hospital bag is packed and ready to go, so now it’s just a waiting game. It will be great having a new baby again, it’s been long enough without one.

I’m starting to feel centered and content again - now if that other area within the family can just get resolved (a new home waiting to be found for near and dear ones and an ease of stress) I can stop feeling so burdened with my own stressors and worries. I know it will, it’s just a matter of it coming together.

DNA tests reveal Birkhead is father of Anna Nicole Smith’s baby.

Thus leaving Howard K. Stern without a meal ticket. I will say this, however - the resemblances are really striking:

Bill Donohue gets PWNED By South Park

From the Orlando Sentinel:

The folks at “South Park” take no prisoners.

Consider Wednesday’s episode, which went after Bill Donohue, president of the conservative Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights. Donohue has been a severe critic of the animated series on Comedy Central.

The episode mixed Easter and “The Da Vinci Code” in typically wacky fashion. The plot involved the current pope and Jesus. The story ended with Jesus cutting Donahue in half with a flying ninja blade.

In other recent controversies, Donohue has called the co-creators of “South Park,” Matt Stone and Trey Parker, whores and cowards.

At its Web site, catholicleague.org, Donohue’s group on Thursday offered its own description of the episode:

“On last night’s episode of the Comedy Central show ‘South Park,’ Catholic League president Bill Donohue appeared as one of the cartoon characters, along with a figure of Pope Benedict XVI. The Easter script depicted Donohue chastising the pope for being ‘too soft.’ Donohue then takes over as pope. When a Jesus figure appears, he has both the pope and Jesus arrested. After Jesus is killed by Kyle, he resurrects and kills Donohue.”

The Web site offered this comment from Donohue:

“I have no idea why ‘South Park’ creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker caricature me as a heartless thug. In any event, I stand convicted and have no defense. Now I have to get back to business — I hear someone just took some liberties with the Easter Bunny.”
